ÌÇÐÄvlog County Council are delighted to announce that Acorns Children’s Hospice are the official charity partner for this year’s Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run.
Runners can take on the 5k,10k or Families on Track relay race in Wythall Park on Saturday June 22 whilst fundraising for an amazing local charity!
A parent never imagines their child will be diagnosed with a life limiting or life threatening condition. But when the unimaginable happens, Acorns steps in. The charity helps families cope at every stage of their child’s life and beyond, wherever and whenever they need it.
Every year, Acorns cares for more than 780 children, and around 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved.
Sophie Boreham, Events Manager at Acorns Children’s Hospice, said: “The countdown is on for the Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run here at Acorns. We’re thrilled to be the Charity Partner for this year’s event, which will see a welcome spotlight on our life-changing care for seriously ill children and their families across our region.
“The timing couldn’t be better as the fun run coincides with national Children’s Hospice Week (16-22 June), when all eyes will be on children’s hospices and the vital care they provide. Events like this are so important for organisations like ours, which rely on the community’s support to raise the majority of the funds we need to continue our care for families in need.
“Help can’t wait for these families. So it would be amazing if anyone signing up could join ‘Team Acorns’ and raise crucial funds that will enable us to continue to be there for families caring for children with life limiting and life-threatening conditions when they need us most.â€
Olympic medallist, Steve Cram, who is endorsing the Fun Run met up with the event organisers from Acorns recently to discuss the upcoming event, you can watch the short clip below:
Steve Cram said: “I visited Acorns hospice in Worcester last year. It was amazing to find out more about the truly phenomenal work that goes on there, and to meet the team and some of the amazing children that benefit from their care.
“The work that Acorns do makes such a difference to children and young people and their families in this area. If you need an extra incentive to get running this summer, fundraising for this charity is a very good reason."
Those who sign up to run for Acorns will receive a running vest, training and fundraising support, a fundraising pack, access to a private WhatsApp group to get to know your fellow runners, race day support, and a medal and tote bag for finishers.
Dr. Lisa McNally, Director of Public Health for ÌÇÐÄvlog County Council said: “I’m so pleased that Acorns is the charity sponsor of Wythall & Hollywood Fun Run. It’s such a great way to do something positive for your own health while also supporting a brilliant local cause. Acorns is a charity that means a lot to many people in the West Midlands, and I’m delighted we can come together to help make a difference.â€
